The S7480F-PBF2-S3 is a servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. As a programmable AC drive, it connects the plant mains to a synchronous or induction motor, supplying regulated current and executing built-in safety functions for axis control in industrial automation cells. It manages torque, speed, and position loops while exchanging control data with the higher-level controller through its integrated fieldbus interface.

The drive accepts a three-phase supply from 208–480 V, enabling compatibility with common factory feeders. Within that range, it draws up to 35 kVA and delivers a continuous output current of 48 Arms, with overload bursts reaching 96 Arms for rapid acceleration. Its pulse-width-modulated stage switches at 8 kHz, and the minimum allowable motor inductance is 0.74 mH to keep current ripple within limits. Only 6 V of residual drop appears across the output devices, which helps limit internal losses. Standard or coated PCB versions are offered, and the conformal-coated option can be paired with the fan-controller expansion card and the controlled-fan module in slot 2 to improve surface cooling. Communication takes place over PROFIBUS-DP in slot 1, while slot 3 houses the S1-2 safety card. Together with dual-channel STO, these features support SIL CL3 functional safety.

For branch protection, a 60 A AC supply fuse is specified to handle charging inrush and fault currents. During rated operation, the inverter dissipates 635 W at 400 V, and that heat is removed by the closed-loop fan so cabinet ventilation can remain moderate. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, meaning it is touch-safe yet requires installation inside a larger enclosure. Motor terminals are driven by an output stage that limits dv/dt to 4.0 kV/µs, reducing stress on winding insulation and connected feedback cables.
