Kollmorgen manufactures the S7480F-FBF2-NA servo drive for motion-control systems within the S700 Servo Drives series. In operation, it modulates three-phase motor power to support precise velocity, torque, and position control in automated equipment. This makes it suitable for axes that require accurate response during positioning, speed regulation, and coordinated motion. The housing measures 190 mm in width, 505 mm in height, and 285 mm in depth when connectors are mounted, allowing straightforward panel installation. This version uses a coated PCB finish for added humidity protection. During standby, the electronics release 24 W of heat that must be removed by cabinet airflow.

The power section accepts a mains range of 208 to 480 V and is rated for 35 kVA of apparent input power. Under continuous operation, the output stage delivers 48 Arms to the motor, and it can supply up to 96 Arms during short acceleration bursts. This combination supports steady load operation while still allowing brief overload capability for dynamic motion. Switching transistors are clocked at 8 kHz, which helps limit current ripple and reduce audible motor noise. The internal DC link has a residual drop of 6 V, which helps conserve energy and reduce heat in the power devices. A regulated auxiliary supply of 5 VDC at 300 mA is provided for secondary encoders, so an external sensor power rail is not required.

The drive handles continuous brake energy of 8 kW and is matched to an external resistor of 15 ohms for rapid stopping duty. This braking arrangement absorbs regenerated energy during deceleration and helps protect the power section from excess voltage rise. When operating at 400 V, the assembly releases 635 W into the control cabinet, so cabinet ventilation must account for that heat load. An optional fan-controller expansion card can reduce the amount of heat released into the cabinet during operation. For personnel protection, the integrated safety module provides dual-channel STO, enabling redundant torque shutdown paths without additional relays.
