The S7480C-PNF2-PA servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. As a digital amplifier, it supplies regulated current to synchronous and induction servo motors, linking motion commands from a controller to mechanical output in automated machines. The unit supports coldplate mounting so heat can be transferred into a separate thermal mass instead of the cabinet air path. It also includes dual-channel STO for integrated functional safety on motion axes.

During operation, the drive accepts a three-phase input range of 208 to 480 V and draws up to 35 kVA at the line terminals. From this supply, it delivers a continuous phase current of 48 Arms, while short acceleration or load transients can be handled with a peak capability of 96 Arms. The internal IGBT bridge switches at 8 kHz, which helps reduce motor acoustic noise while keeping switching losses manageable. A current form factor of 1.01 indicates low harmonic distortion, and a residual voltage drop of 6 V across the output stage must be considered when matching the drive to motor voltage. For dynamic braking, the unit uses an external 15 Ω resistor and dissipates energy through a dedicated brake transistor.

This coldplate version uses a machined mounting surface with a flatness of 25 µm per 100 mm and has a mass of 10.4 kg. Its base temperature must remain below 75 °C, while a control card switches on the top-mounted fans at 80 °C to support thermal control. Under those conditions, the braking channel can deliver 8 kW of continuous power and source up to 3 A for a motor-mounted holding brake. Analog feedback circuits include an input resistance of 20 kΩ, an output span of ±10 V, and a resolution of 0.38 mV for status signals. The assembly also supports an expansion fan controller for coordinated enclosure airflow.
