Kollmorgen manufactures the S7480C-NAF2-S3 in its S700 Servo Drives series. The unit is a servo drive used to regulate torque, speed, and position of industrial motors. Built-in EtherCAT and CANopen communication interfaces let it link directly to distributed controllers. Without connectors, the housing measures 190 mm in width, 244 mm in depth, and 386 mm in height, dimensions that allow straightforward mounting in 600 mm-deep cabinets while still leaving space for airflow around the coldplate heat sink.

During continuous operation, the drive supplies 48 Arms, and it can rise momentarily to 96 Arms to handle acceleration peaks. The input side is rated at 35 kVA, so line protection and cabling must match that apparent power when the drive is fully loaded. A permissible mains range of 208 to 480 V lets the same model run on low- or high-voltage three-phase networks. Thermal dissipation at 400 V reaches 635 W, and this heat is removed through the coldplate option and the factory-installed fan-controller expansion card. The output current form factor of 1.01 indicates nearly sinusoidal motor current, which limits additional copper loss and motor heating. A residual DC-link drop of 6 V minimizes voltage overhead between the drive and motor terminals, and the design tolerates 30 on and off cycles per hour without exceeding internal temperature limits.

Functional safety is integrated by the dual-channel STO circuitry, which disconnects torque-producing energy without external contactors. Acoustic emission does not exceed 62 dB(A), allowing the drive to be mounted near operating areas in test stands or small cells. With the coldplate installed, the assembly weighs 10.4 kg, which helps keep panel installation manageable. The rectangular footprint simplifies bus-bar layout, and the fan controller adjusts airflow so that thermal loss stays within tolerance even at the maximum switch rate. Cabinet designers can route network cables directly to the front terminals while the coldplate mates to an external heat sink to keep components within rating.
