The S7480C-FBF2-S3 is a servo drive in the Kollmorgen S700 Servo Drives series and is intended to provide closed-loop speed and torque control to brushless servomotors used in automated machinery. It uses a coldplate mounting option that transfers heat directly to the machine frame instead of using an integral heat sink. This layout reduces cabinet depth and suits installations that need the drive’s 190 mm width and 10.4 kg mass to fit within compact electrical panels.

The drive accepts a three-phase mains range of 208–480 V and draws a maximum apparent power of 35 kVA at full load. During continuous operation, the output stage delivers 48 Arms, while short duty cycles can reach a peak of 96 Arms for rapid acceleration. A high-speed current loop that updates every 62.5 µs supports tight torque regulation and minimizes phase lag with high-bandwidth feedback devices. Mechanical dimensions without connectors measure 386 mm in height, 244 mm in depth, and 190 mm in width, allowing the unit to fit in shallow enclosures. The drive also provides a 5 VDC, 300 mA secondary encoder supply that powers SinCos 1 Vp-p feedback to improve position resolution on multi-turn or auxiliary axes.

Thermal management relies on a coldplate with a maximum temperature of 75 °C; at 400 V bus voltage, the assembly has a thermal resistance of 0.055 K/W and dissipates 635 W of heat that must be removed by the mounting surface or an external liquid circuit. A fan-controller expansion card can be installed when additional forced airflow is needed near adjacent components. Safety provisions include a dual-channel STO interface that interrupts the power stage for machinery that requires SIL or PL stop functions. The unit also provides SinCos secondary feedback, and its coldplate design should be considered when planning panel layout, cable routing, and thermal contact surfaces.
