The S7480C-EIF2-S4 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. As a closed-loop power stage, it interfaces between a three-phase supply and a synchronous or induction motor, converting the mains voltage to a controlled output that regulates torque, speed, and position in automated machinery. The unit provides fast, repeatable motion control so that packaging lines, gantry axes, and process equipment can follow precision profiles generated by a PLC or motion controller.

This model accepts a supply between 208–480 V and is designed for either 50 Hz or 60 Hz networks. With a continuous rating of 48 Arms, it can drive medium-to-large motors during steady operation, while a peak capability of 96 Arms is available for up to 5 seconds to handle acceleration bursts or load shocks. The converter section can deliver up to 36 kVA of apparent power, so the installation must use conductors and fusing sized for that load. Integrated current and thermal monitoring feed a fan controller card, which starts the heat-sink fans once the temperature exceeds 75 °C and starts the brake blower when dissipation rises above 45 W. For deterministic machine sequences, the drive’s fieldbus-independent local I/O scans in a minimum of 4 ms, ensuring prompt reaction to interlocks or sensors.

A total of 14 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs are provided at 24 V logic levels, allowing direct connection of limit switches, status lamps, or relays without extra interface modules. Functional safety is embedded to SIL CL2 / PLd, and the hardware also supports dual-channel STO so emergency stops remove torque within the prescribed time. Cold-plate construction lets the chassis bolt to an external heat sink, shifting thermal load away from the enclosure. Each output channel can source 500 mA, while inputs draw 7 mA, matching common sensor and indicator currents for industrial control wiring.
