The S7480C-2CF2-S3 servo drive is built by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. As a closed-loop inverter, it delivers precise torque and velocity regulation for brushless servo motors used in conveyors, pick-and-place axes, and similar industrial automation applications. The unit forms the interface between a three-phase power source and the motor, converting the supplied voltage into controlled pulses while monitoring speed feedback for tight positioning accuracy.

Physically, the drive occupies a panel footprint of 190 mm in width, 386 mm in height, and 244 mm in depth, not including connectors. Its integrated cold-plate option has a mass of 10.4 kg, allowing direct mounting to a machine panel whose flatness must remain within 25 µm over 100 mm to preserve thermal interface quality. The cold plate can operate up to 75 °C before derating occurs and supports passive dissipation of 24 W when the internal fan is disabled. Overall acoustic output is limited to 62 dB(A), and an auxiliary fan-controller expansion card can be installed to regulate external blowers when forced convection is preferred.

Electrically, the drive accepts three-phase supplies from 208–480 V and pulses its IGBTs at 8 kHz to shape the output waveform. Under continuous load it can deliver 48 Arms, while transient demands are covered by a peak capability of 96 Arms. The internal DC link and output stages accommodate applications drawing up to 35 kVA without thermal foldback, and only 6 V of residual voltage drop is introduced between the power input and the motor terminals. A dual-channel Safe Torque Off interface provides redundant STO functionality so drive energy can be removed through hardware logic rather than mechanical contactors when a safety circuit is triggered.
