It converts three-phase mains power into regulated motor output for precise speed and torque control on industrial positioning axes used in packaging, material handling, and similar automation systems. The drive accepts a line supply from 208 to 480 V and uses a fixed switching frequency of 8 kHz to shape its output waveforms. Continuous operation is rated at 48 A RMS, while short motion bursts can reach 96 A RMS without saturating the power stage. At full load, the input side must deliver 35 kVA, and a residual voltage drop of 6 V across the transistor bridge helps limit conduction loss. When mounted to a conduction plate, the drive dissipates 685 W during active operation and only 24 W when disabled. To maintain stable silicon junction temperatures, the thermal interface must stay below 0.051 K/W. The coldplate weighs 10.4 kg and may reach up to 75 °C without exceeding the allowable condition for the assembly. Differential voltage edges are limited to 4.8 kV/µs to reduce electromagnetic interference and cable stress. This thermal path is important when the unit is installed against a machine-mounted cooling surface instead of relying only on free air. Coated printed circuit boards improve corrosion resistance, and an external blower controlled by the expansion card can further reduce device temperature.
