The S7480A-SEF2-PA is an AC servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed as a closed-loop amplifier for brushless motors, it conditions three-phase line power into the controlled output required by industrial axes. In automated assembly cells, packaging lines, and material-handling gantries, the unit regulates torque, speed, and position commands from a motion controller. It also incorporates protective and diagnostic functions that help the axis respond predictably during routine operation and fault handling.

This drive accepts an input line from 208 to 480 V and rectifies it before converting it to PWM motor power. Under continuous operation, it can deliver 48 Arms of output current, which is relevant to cable selection, fuse coordination, and thermal layout inside the enclosure. It supports a single mechanical axis, so the controller addresses it as 1 logical channel rather than a shared multi-axis resource. Because the input source is three-phase AC, the converter sees lower ripple than a comparable single-phase design. Sensor feedback, status, and parameter access travel through the front-panel SERCOS or EtherCAT port.

For safety integration, the drive provides dual-channel STO inputs that remove motor torque without disconnecting the control electronics, allowing the control section to remain active during a stop request. Peak output is available for 5 s, giving the axis extra acceleration when a load must move away from standstill or recover speed quickly after a brief disturbance. Cooling is supported by a detachable fan controller card, and the cold plate and coated PCBs option helps protect internal components from humidity and airborne particles. The option package is useful in cabinets where intermittent moisture or airborne contamination may be present.
