The S7480A-PNF2-PM is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. Deployed between a motion controller and a synchronous or induction motor, it converts three-phase mains power into regulated output that closes the torque, velocity, or position loop in industrial automation axes. By integrating power electronics, safety logic, and parameter memory in one housing, the unit reduces panel density while giving machine builders a programmable interface for packaging, printing, or material-handling tasks. Its cold-plate design allows the base to bolt directly to a machine frame so heat is removed without forced airflow.

At the power stage, the drive maintains a DC link between 290…675 VDC, giving the internal capacitors adequate margin for global mains tolerances. Under continuous load, it delivers a rated phase current of 48 Arms, while transient demands can be met with a peak capability of 96 Arms during short accelerations. The silicon bridge is pulsed at an output stage frequency of 8 kHz, so motor inductance is modulated with minimal ripple. To feed this bridge, the converter draws up to 35 kVA from the supply. Idle heat dissipation is limited to 24 W, and an integrated fan-controller expansion card adjusts airflow to match thermal load. Noise emission reaches 62 dB(A) during maximum cooling, and coated printed circuit boards improve moisture resistance.

The drive accepts three-phase mains from 50 or 60 Hz networks in the 208…480 V range, and the front-end rectifier withstands a voltage rise of 4.8 kV/µs at 480 V without insulation failure. The enclosure carries an IP20 rating, which limits installation to a switch cabinet but simplifies cable access. Functional safety is provided through a dual-channel STO interface that removes torque-producing energy without mechanical relays. Structural mass is 10.4 kg, and optional cold-plate mounting together with coated printed circuit boards supports use with liquid-cooled plates.
