The S7480A-FBF2-PA is a Kollmorgen S700 servo drive that converts plant AC power into precisely metered motor currents for closed-loop automation. Positioned within the S700 Servo Drives series, this module combines power electronics, feedback processing, and safety circuitry in one 386 mm tall enclosure. By receiving motion commands over a fieldbus and driving matched servomotors, it supports synchronized positioning tasks in packaging, metal-cutting, and assembly equipment where high dynamic accuracy and minimal panel space are important. The integrated control structure also helps the drive respond quickly to changing load conditions during coordinated multi-axis motion.

While running, the drive can absorb 35 kVA from three-phase mains rated at 208...480 V. From that input, it supplies up to 48 Arms of continuous phase current to the motor. Pulse-width modulation at 8 kHz permits fine torque control without excessive switching loss. Machine safety is handled by a dual-channel STO system that disables the power stage on demand, and workplace noise is held to 62 dB(A). A 6 V residual drop must be considered across the output bridge. The encoder interface provides 5 VDC at 300 mA, while the position I/O offers 0.38 mV resolution and 20 kΩ of input resistance. Cooling airflow is managed by an expansion card that regulates the internal fans, and the standard build includes a coldplate and conformally coated PCBs for corrosive atmospheres.

Quiescent power loss is 24 W, and fan cooling starts when the internal heat-sink temperature reaches 65 °C. The integrated coldplate keeps semiconductor junctions at or below 75 °C. Mechanical installation uses a mounting plate that must remain within 25 µm of flatness over every 100 mm to maintain even thermal contact. The drive weighs 10.4 kg, so the mounting panel must support a compact but relatively heavy unit. Proper mounting also helps maintain stable heat transfer from the housing to the machine structure during continuous operation.
