The S7480A-DNF2-PA is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed for industrial automation, the unit supplies regulated power and motion commands to synchronous and asynchronous servomotors while interfacing with higher-level controllers. By housing motor control, safe torque off, and fieldbus communication in a single chassis, the drive helps machine builders implement compact, high-performance axes without creating custom power stages. This arrangement allows one drive to manage both power conversion and command handling within the same enclosure.

In normal operation, the drive accepts a mains input between 208–480 V and draws a continuous phase current of 48 Arms, with overload capability up to 96 Arms for rapid acceleration. The power section is rated for 35 kVA and switches the DC link at 8 kHz to produce low-ripple motor voltage, with only a 6 V residual drop from the bus to the motor terminals. A cold-plate base and conformally coated PCBs help manage heat and airborne contaminants, while the 10.4 kg assembly uses an internal fan that turns on when the heat-sink temperature reaches 65 °C. Analog command channels include a 20 kΩ input, 0.38 mV output resolution, and a ±10 V swing for precise velocity or torque reference control.

For networked control, the integrated DeviceNet interface provides isolation between logic and power at 500 V and supports up to 64 nodes for multi-axis communication. An optional expansion slot is fitted with a fan controller card, and the standard cold-plate option matches external liquid or panel coolers. Dynamic braking connections accept an external 15 Ω resistor and can dissipate up to 8 kW of regenerated energy. Safety functions include a dual-channel STO circuit that removes torque-producing pulses without cycling the mains contactor. Isolated network circuitry, residual-voltage tolerance, and coated PCB surfaces help the drive remain stable in electrically noisy machinery.
