The S7480A-2CF2-S3 is a module in the Kollmorgen S700 Servo Drives series that regulates motor torque, speed, and position in automated machinery lines. As an S700 servo drive, it converts three-phase mains power into controlled output for synchronous or induction motors. This layout suits distributed motion systems that require fast current loops, coordinated axis response, and integrated safety functions during repetitive machine operation.

This drive supplies a continuous phase current of 48 Arms, while short bursts up to 96 Arms accommodate rapid acceleration and load changes. It requires up to 35 kVA of available apparent power on a 50/60 Hz supply rated at 208 to 480 V. Internally, the output stage switches at 8 kHz, balancing current ripple against switching losses. The integrated safety input uses dual-channel STO, allowing drive-level prevention of unintended torque. Cold plate cooling removes heat directly into a machine frame, and the option package with a cold plate and coated PCBs combines that thermal path with lacquered circuit boards for better humidity resistance. A fan-controller expansion card can be installed for external blowers, and only 6 V of residual voltage drop is introduced across the power section.

Thermal limits are governed by a cold plate center temperature that must not exceed 75 °C, assisted by the 10.4 kg aluminum plate that stores and spreads heat. Acoustic output remains below 62 dB(A), which helps reduce noise in enclosed equipment areas. The housing stands 386 mm high, reaches 244 mm deep without connectors, and is only 190 mm wide, so multiple axes can mount side by side in a tight cabinet. That narrow profile helps preserve space for cable routing and neighboring components. Conformal coating shields the PCB traces from conductive dust, and the cold plate format supports predictable airflow planning around adjacent hardware.
