The S7480A-2CF2-PM servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. Designed for cabinet-mounted automation equipment, it supplies regulated three-phase power to matched servo motors and exchanges real-time commands through the X5 system bus. The unit is delivered with a coldplate base and coated printed circuit boards, a combination that supports liquid-cooled installation in contaminated environments while protecting board surfaces from moisture and dust.

Electrically, the drive accepts a line supply of 208 to 480 V, drawing up to 35 kVA of apparent power under full load. Its inverter delivers 48 Arms continuously, with a surge capability of 96 Arms for short acceleration intervals. Current is pulse-width modulated at 8 kHz, a frequency selected to keep motor torque ripple low. Functional safety is provided by dual-channel STO, which disables the power stage without mechanical relays. Logic on the X5 connector references a 5 V signal level for command and feedback exchange, and heat dissipation with the control section disabled is limited to 24 W to reduce cabinet temperature rise.

Thermal management relies on the integrated coldplate. It weighs 10.4 kg, must contact a surface held within a mounting flatness of 25 µm per 100 mm, and may reach a maximum temperature of 75 °C during operation. The heat sink fan is activated by the fan-controller expansion card when the measured surface climbs to 80 °C, providing air-side cooling if the baseplate cannot move enough heat. Dynamic braking energy is directed to an internal resistor that can tolerate a maximum brake current of 3 A. When the drive acts as the motion coordinator, as many as 16 slave axes can be synchronized through the X5 bus, and the dual-CAN port is terminated with 120 Ω for signal quality. Overall acoustic emission stays at 62 dB(A).
