S74802-PBF2-PM is a digital motor controller. It is designed and manufactured by Kollmorgen. The controller is part of the S700 series. S700 controllers support safe torque off, a safety feature that turns off power output to prevent the motor from producing torque. Kollmorgen has designed the S74802-PBF2-PM for use with compatible synchronous, linear, induction and DC motors. The controller supports feedback with resolver-based, encoder-based, AquadB Encoder-based, ComCoder-based on-board evaluation. With this feature, the controller and associated motor can be used as part of a closed-loop control system for accurate control of motor speed, position and torque. Input voltage rating of the S74802-PBF2-PM controller is 208 to 480 Volts AC. The rated output is 48 Amps. It can sustain 96 Amps peak output for 5 seconds. The controller has three expansion slots. Slot 1 on the S74802-PBF2-PM unit features a Profibus card. Slot 2 on the unit is equipped with a fan control card that can only be installed at the factory. Slot 3 on the unit features a position I/O card. Modular design of the unit allows adaption to application requirements. Operators can specify the required expansion cards to suit their requirements. Weight of the S74802-PBF2-PM controller is 13 kilograms. It has an IP20 rated enclosure. Kollmorgen recommended installing the unit inside a switchgear cabinet. The optimal ambient temperature for operation is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius. The controller can be stored for up to one year without restrictions. If stored for more than one year, capacitors on the unit required re-forming. As its surface gets very hot, the controller must be allowed to cool down before any maintenance activity is performed.
