The S74802-PBF2-PM is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. As a closed-loop power stage, it interfaces between a three-phase mains supply and a synchronous or induction motor, modulating voltage and current so the motor follows motion commands issued by the machine controller. In automated assembly cells and processing lines, the drive supplies rapid acceleration, controlled deceleration, and functional safety for axes that demand precise positioning.

Electrically, the drive accepts a mains range of 208 to 480 V and can process up to 35 kVA of input power before derating. Under continuous operation, the output stage supplies 48 Arms, while transient moves such as indexing or emergency braking can draw a peak of 96 Arms. Power devices inside the S700 switch at 8 kHz, a carrier frequency that balances motor acoustic noise with semiconductor losses. Dual-channel STO circuitry allows torque to be removed without opening the main contactor, and a 5 V Posi/O signal level aligns the drive's I/O handshake with common PLC hardware. A dedicated fan-controller expansion card modulates blower speed to maintain component temperatures within the intended range, and the control section uses standard PCBs.

Thermal behavior is quantified by a dissipation figure of 635 W at a 400 V DC bus. This heat load is removed by an internal fan that idles at 50% of its rated speed during medium demand.
