The S74802-NAF2-S4 is a Kollmorgen servo drive in the S700 Servo Drives series. It converts line power into controlled phase currents that position or regulate the velocity of servo motors in packaging lines, pick-and-place stations, and other automated machinery. By pairing with external feedback and a matching servo motor, it closes the motor loop for accurate motion under changing mechanical load. This supports repeatable acceleration, deceleration, and speed control in applications where axis response must remain consistent throughout frequent machine cycles.

This drive accepts grounded three-phase AC from 208 to 480 V and delivers a continuous output of 48 Arms, with headroom to reach 96 Arms during peak demand. The front-end rectifier and DC bus can process up to 35 kVA, so upstream circuit breakers and contactors must be sized accordingly. An inverter carrier frequency of 8 kHz sets the tradeoff between switching losses and audible noise, while the application is limited to 30 start-stop cycles per hour to stay within the permitted switching rate. Cabinet mounting is required because the housing carries an IP20 rating that protects against finger contact but not dust or dripping water. Standard PCBs are installed for the control and power sections, and a fan-controller expansion card regulates airflow through the heat sink when onboard temperature sensors detect rising heat inside the unit.

Functional safety is handled by a dual-channel STO circuit that removes gate power and produces a torque-free motor state without cutting the mains supply. For command and diagnostics, the controller natively supports CANopen and EtherCAT, allowing the axis to join distributed motion networks with synchronized cycle times and centralized control. The dedicated fan card offloads thermal regulation tasks from the main processor and helps maintain stable cooling response during load changes. The grounded supply path is continuously checked for phase symmetry before the power devices are enabled, which helps the drive avoid uneven input conditions during operation.
