The S7240F-NAF2NA-NA-035 servo drive, manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the S700 Servo Drives series, provides closed-loop motion control for axis modules in packaging, material handling, and robotics cells. It operates as the central power stage between the mains supply and a motor. The drive receives real-time commands through integrated EtherCAT and CANopen interfaces and executes them with current-controlled PWM output.

At installation, the unit accepts a phase-to-phase mains range of 208 to 480 V and can draw up to 18 kVA when delivering rated shaft power. The control section is supplied separately with 24 VDC auxiliary power to keep logic active during main isolation. Continuous output capability reaches 24 Arms, while short dynamic events can be served with up to 48 Arms. These currents are produced by an IGBT bridge switching at 8 kHz, balancing response time and conducted EMI. With connectors engaged, the housing measures 100 mm in width, 285 mm in depth, and 382 mm in height, allowing placement in standard 600 mm deep cabinets without additional spacers. For controlled energy absorption, the drive incorporates a 23-ohm brake resistor that can handle up to 200 W of regenerative power, which helps prevent DC-link overvoltage during deceleration. Under sustained load, the electronics dissipate about 330 W as heat, so cabinet ventilation must accommodate this. Protective features include dual-channel Safe Torque Off and an enclosure rated IP20, meaning live parts are guarded against fingers but the unit must be mounted in a closed panel. The unit has a mass of 5.5 kg, which helps keep multi-axis cabinet layouts compact.
