It regulates three-phase permanent-magnet motors in automated machinery by modulating line voltage, monitoring feedback, and providing Safe Torque Off capability through its dual-channel STO circuit. By integrating EtherCAT and CANopen directly on the base unit, the drive connects to higher-level PLCs without an add-on card. This built-in communication setup supports coordinated multi-axis positioning tasks on packaging lines, test stands, and material-handling cells.

The power section is rated for a continuous phase current of 24 Arms, while a short overload window of 2 s allows a peak current of 48 Arms during accelerations or impact loads. During standby, dissipation falls to 25 W, helping reduce cabinet temperatures between production shifts. The drive weighs 5.5 kg, allowing it to be panel-mounted beside other S700 units while operating at up to thirty switching cycles per hour without exceeding 65 dB(A) acoustic emission. A residual voltage drop of 6 V on the logic supply keeps the control electronics active long enough for an orderly fieldbus shutdown when mains power is removed.
