The S71201-US is a field-mounted servo drive produced by Kollmorgen in the S700 Servo Drives series. This standalone unit converts a three-phase mains supply into a regulated, pulse-width modulated output that governs permanent-magnet servomotors, enabling automated equipment to execute coordinated speed, torque, and position commands. By combining power conversion, current control, and integrated safety, the drive supports the motion layer of multi-axis CNC machines, robotics, high-throughput conveying systems, and other coordinated automation equipment.

During steady operation, the drive supplies a continuous phase current of 12 Arms; this value is the thermal limit for long-term loading of the output stage and supports sustainable shaft torque. For short peaks, it can deliver 24 Arms for two seconds, giving machines headroom for rapid acceleration. The internal DC link can reach 900 VDC, keeping regenerated energy below component limits. Current is switched at 8 kHz, a frequency that reduces output ripple while keeping switching losses moderate. Line compatibility spans 208–480 V, allowing the same hardware to operate on either 240 V or 480 V grids. A 6 V residual drop across the output devices and a 2.7 mH minimum motor inductance at 480 V guide axis design.

The enclosure is 243 mm deep, 345 mm high, and 70 mm wide, so it fits standard IEC cabinet rails. Shipping mass is only 4.4 kg, which keeps handling demands low during installation and panel mounting. Passive losses are 20 W at idle, while 160 W of heat is released at rated power; an additional 100 W can be absorbed by the internal brake resistor, so cabinet airflow must be sized accordingly. A single-channel STO function removes drive energy within microseconds, providing a safety stop path that does not rely on mechanical contactors. Standard PCBs and a 6.9 kV/µs voltage rise at 480 V set insulation limits for motor cabling.
