The S71201-SE is a servo drive developed by Kollmorgen and belongs to the S700 Servo Drives series. It regulates torque, speed, and position for synchronous and induction motors in automated machinery. By processing motion commands and supplying controlled three-phase power, the drive links higher-level controllers to the mechanical load in packaging, printing, and material-handling lines. It is suited for applications that require closed-loop motion control with repeatable response under changing load conditions.

The drive accepts line supplies from 208 to 480 V and draws a nominal input of 4.5 kVA, giving it flexibility on mixed-voltage factory buses. Its continuous motor phase output is limited to 12 Arms, which indicates the sustained current available to the connected motor without thermal derating. Pulse-width modulation operates at 8 kHz, allowing fine current resolution while keeping acoustic noise moderate. Functional safety is provided through a single-channel STO input that removes energy from the power stage during an emergency stop. Thermal losses are 90 W at rated load and 20 W when the output stage is disabled. Dynamic braking energy is handled internally by a 33 Ohm resistor that absorbs 100 W continuously, and overloads up to 1.93 kW for one second help prevent DC-bus overvoltage during rapid deceleration. Motion network communication is available through an optional SERCOS expansion card.

The housing measures 345 mm in height, 70 mm in width, and 243 mm in depth, with dimensions stated without the plug-in connectors so panel layouts can be planned accurately. The drive has a mass of 4.4 kg, which helps when mounting it on light-gauge DIN rails or inside swinging cabinet doors. Standard PCBs are used, so there is no conformal coating to account for in climate-controlled enclosures. Because the connector dimensions are excluded, cabinet clearances can be set from the base housing size before cable routing is finalized.
