Internal Product Review
The S71201-NA is a Kollmorgen S700 servo drive with a 208...480 V rating and 12 Arms rated current. EtherCAT and CANopen onboard support straightforward network integration, while single-channel STO adds practical machine safety coverage. Peak output current of 24 Arms and a 900 V max DC bus voltage make the unit a strong choice for demanding motion control.

Product Description:
The S71201-NA is an AC servo drive released by Kollmorgen within the S700 Servo Drives series. Acting as the power stage for closed-loop motion systems, it produces a regulated three-phase output from incoming industrial mains, allowing a connected permanent-magnet or induction motor to accelerate, brake, and hold its position under software control. The unit supports EtherCAT and CANopen for high-speed network control, allowing multiple axes to be synchronized in packaging, printing, and material-handling equipment. These communication options also support the exchange of motion commands, operating data, and diagnostic information with a higher-level controller.
Line supplies from 208–480 V are rectified and buffered, allowing the S71201-NA to deliver a continuous phase current of 12 A rms and a momentary surge of 24 A rms for two seconds during rapid acceleration. The internal DC bus can rise to 900 V, giving the control electronics ample headroom for field weakening or regenerative events. With a rated input demand of 9 kVA, suitable contactors and circuit protection can be selected for the installation. Pulse-width modulation operates at 8 kHz, balancing dynamic response with switching losses. For stable current-loop operation, connected motors must have at least 2.2 mH of phase inductance when operating on a 400 V bus.
The drive contains an internal brake resistor rated at 33 Ω to dissipate excess regenerative energy during motor deceleration. Its thermal design permits up to 100 W of continuous braking power, while full-load operation releases 160 W of heat into the cabinet. Audible output remains below 65 dB(A), helping limit operating noise near machinery and work areas. The enclosure measures 70 mm wide, 243 mm deep, and 345 mm high, allowing multiple axes to be installed closely inside a control cabinet. A total mass of 4.4 kg must be considered when selecting the mounting surface and fasteners. Standard printed circuit boards are installed, and a single-channel STO input provides a basic safe torque off function without an optional expansion card.
