The SERVOSTAR-614-AS is a servo drive from Kollmorgen that forms part of the S600 Servo Drives series. Designed to command brushless servomotors in automated machinery, the unit converts fixed-frequency mains power into controlled output that governs motor torque, speed, and position. Housed in a compact chassis that aligns with standard cabinet layouts, it sits between the motion controller and the actuator, delivering regulated current while simultaneously supervising thermal and electrical limits through onboard diagnostics.

For continuous operation, the drive supplies a 14 Arms rated motor current and can reach 28 Arms for dynamic peaks during acceleration. At that rated current, the power section dissipates 160 W, and that heat must be removed by panel airflow. The converter is designed for a 10 kVA installed load, matching medium-frame servomotors used in packaging, printing, and pick-and-place axes. An enclosure classification of IP20 provides finger-safe terminals but requires placement inside a closed cabinet. During operation, the acoustic level stays below 45 dB(A), supporting installation close to the machine. Input resistance to analog ground is 20 kΩ, limiting leakage paths from control electronics, and the common-mode voltage presented to feedback devices does not exceed 10 V. Standby losses are limited to a quiescent dissipation of 15 W, so cabinet temperatures remain stable when the axis is idle.

The power stage accommodates load inductances from 15 mH down to 2.5 mH, letting the drive pair with motors that have different winding characteristics while maintaining current-loop stability. Control electronics and the built-in brake relay are fed from a 24 VDC auxiliary supply. The same rail energizes the AS relay, and the contact set can switch 30 VDC with a residual drop of 5 V when closed. During brake engagement, the auxiliary path sources 3 A, and the drive output section remains within normal operating limits.
