The SERVOSTAR-610-AS-PROFI is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen and included in the S600 Servo Drives series. It regulates current and velocity for synchronous or induction servomotors, providing closed-loop motion control within automated machines such as packaging axes, pick-and-place heads, and material-handling gantries. By converting mains power into a controlled three-phase output while exchanging status data with higher-level controllers, the unit forms the electrical interface between motion commands and mechanical movement.

At the power stage, the drive delivers a continuous phase current of 10 Arms and can supply up to 20 Arms for short acceleration peaks. These values correspond to a rated installed load of 7 kVA, allowing moderate-sized motors to be driven without external boosters. The housing carries an IP20 protection rating, so it is intended for installation inside a control cabinet with filtered airflow. System communication is handled through a PROFIBUS DP fieldbus node, and two 9-pin Sub-D sockets are provided for easy network daisy-chaining. A residual voltage drop of 5 V across the output stage helps limit thermal stress, while the output current form factor of 1.01 indicates nearly sinusoidal motor current. The current loop remains stable with load inductances between 4 mH and 25 mH. Motor braking energy is dissipated internally, and the safety relay operates from a 24 VDC source, providing enable and emergency-stop channels rated for 500 mA.

Input protection is provided by a line fuse rated at 10 AT for the AC supply and a separate auxiliary fuse of 3.15 AT that safeguards control electronics. Under standby conditions, the drive draws only 15 W, rising to 90 W of heat dissipation when delivering its full rated current, so cabinet ventilation should be sized accordingly. The quiescent and active losses combine with the 5 V voltage drop to determine heat sink requirements. Relay contacts tolerate 500 mA, and the PROFIBUS connectors include locking screws to secure cabling. With the specified inductance window and low current form factor, motor torque ripple is minimized during steady-state and transient operation.
