The SERVOSTAR-606-AS is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen and supplied as part of the S600 Servo Drives series. In an automation cell, it sits between the mains supply and a synchronous servo motor, modulating current and voltage so the motion controller can impose exact speed, position, and torque commands. The unit’s 70 mm width, 265 mm depth, and 275 mm height allow dense side-by-side mounting in a cabinet while still leaving space for wiring and airflow.

The drive delivers a continuous motor phase current of 6 Arms, and during rapid acceleration or shock loads it can supply up to 12 Arms for a limited time. An output-current form factor of 1.01 indicates that the RMS value is almost identical to the average rectified value, helping the motor windings run cooler. The power section is rated for a 4 kVA installed load, which aligns with mid-frame servo motors commonly used on packaging and electronics machinery. An onboard braking stage is connected to a 33 Ω internal resistor so regenerated energy is dissipated safely instead of returning to the DC bus. When the commanded deceleration exceeds the resistor’s thermal limit, the internal brake can absorb up to 200 W in short bursts, preserving drive integrity. The power stage tolerates a maximum load inductance of 40 mH, so cable length and motor leakage inductance must stay within that limit to maintain current-loop stability. Acoustic output is limited to 45 dB(A), supporting installation in operator areas without additional sound shielding. A built-in restart lock prevents automatic re-energization after a trip until the control system issues a reset, and primary protection is provided by an upstream 10 AT AC supply fuse.
