Product Description:
The SERVOSTAR-603A-AS-PROFI is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S600 Servo Drives series. The unit converts three-phase mains power into controlled current and voltage waveforms for brushless servomotors, enabling precise torque and speed regulation in automated packaging lines, material handling cells, and robotics. Fieldbus connectivity lets the drive act as an intelligent axis under centralized PLC control.
The drive’s rated output current is 3 A rms, which is suitable for continuous vector control on moderate-power axes, while its peak channel can deliver 6 A rms for short accelerations. Under rated load, the apparent power reaches 2 kVA, and the drive dissipates 40 W of heat that must be removed by panel airflow. The ±10 V interface has an analog input resistance of 20 kOhm, so upstream controllers are only lightly loaded. Two 9-pin Sub-D Profibus ports provide cyclic position or torque commands without extra gateways. The mechanical envelope is limited to a width of 70 mm, a height of 275 mm, and a depth of 265 mm, easing multi-axis rack layouts. Static loss in idle mode is 15 W, and the output bridge exhibits a 5 V residual drop across phases. The drive supports load inductances within the limits given below.
Dynamic energy is absorbed by an internal brake resistor rated at 80 W, allowing the module to dissipate regenerated power without external hardware. Motor windings connected to the S600 must present at least 12 mH of inductance to maintain current loop stability, yet they must not exceed 75 mH so voltage modulation stays within the bus capability. The sinusoidal output has a current form factor of 1.01, which means RMS and average currents are nearly identical and help reduce additional heating. With a mass of 4 kg, the drive integrates easily onto light machine frames and leaves cabinet space for auxiliary devices.
