The SERVOSTAR-601-I/O-14/08 drive is produced by Kollmorgen within the S600 Servo Drives series and is intended to modulate torque and speed in industrial automation axes. It receives high-voltage supply power, processes command signals from a motion controller, and delivers three-phase current to matched servomotors so that conveyor sections, pick-and-place heads, or indexing tables reach commanded positions with repeatable accuracy. This operating role makes the unit suitable for motion systems that depend on stable response during repeated start, stop, and positioning cycles.

This model provides 14 additional digital inputs and 8 additional digital outputs, allowing direct wiring of sensors, limit switches, and actuators without external I/O modules. Logic devices are energized by a 24 V control line that draws 7 mA per input, while each output can source 24 V at up to 500 mA for relay coils or indicator lamps. The enclosure has a 70 mm width, along with a height of 275 mm and a depth of 265 mm, which permits dense side-by-side mounting of multiple axes. During idle operation, the electronics dissipate 15 W, and they release 30 W when delivering rated current. The added I/O capacity can reduce the need for separate interface hardware in compact control cabinets.

The power stage can supply a short-term peak output current of 3 Arms but maintains a continuous rated output current of 1.5 Arms for thermal equilibrium. Load matching is supported when the motor's line-to-line inductance stays between 25 mH and 150 mH, which helps preserve current-loop stability. Regenerated energy is first absorbed by the internal brake circuit, where up to 80 W is dissipated, after which excess is routed to an external 33 Ω resistor to prevent DC-bus overvoltage. The supply transformer must support an installed load of 1 kVA at 480 V so the drive can withstand simultaneous current surges on all connected axes.
