The SERVOSTAR-601 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S600 Servo Drives series. Designed for closed-loop current, velocity, and position control, it converts fixed supply power into precisely modulated outputs that command brushless or brushed servomotors. In automated packaging lines, gantry stages, or assembly cells, the drive functions as the intermediary between a motion controller and the motor. It follows programmed trajectories while monitoring electrical and thermal limits during operation.

Electrical performance centers on a continuous output of 1.5 A RMS, while short acceleration bursts can reach 3 A RMS without loss of regulation. The power section is rated for an installed load of 1 kVA, providing adequate capacity for moderate-frame motors. Heat generation is 30 W at rated current, and the electronics consume 15 W while idle to reduce panel temperature during standby. Effective current regulation requires the connected motor to have a phase inductance between 25 mH and 150 mH, which helps prevent control-loop instability. A residual voltage drop of 5 V occurs across the output transistors and should be included in motor voltage calculations. The unit occupies 70 mm of cabinet width and extends 265 mm in depth, allowing side-by-side mounting with other drives.

Input protection is provided by a 6 AT AC line fuse. Control logic, encoder power, and brake relays receive power from an auxiliary 24 VDC supply, which is protected separately by a 3.15 AT fuse. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, making the terminals finger-safe while requiring installation inside a closed control cabinet to limit dust exposure. The housing height without front connectors is 275 mm, and the assembly weighs 4 kg for easier mounting and handling.
