The S61401-550 is a digital servo amplifier from Kollmorgen’s S600 Servo Drives series. As a closed-loop drive, it converts three-phase mains power to supply precise current to synchronous or induction motors used in packaging machines, material-handling axes, and similar automation cells. The unit regulates torque and velocity while coordinating with external motion controllers through high-speed analog and discrete interfaces, allowing motor performance to be matched with process demands.
The drive accepts line supplies ranging from 230 to 480 V and is protected on the AC side by a 20 AT semiconductor fuse. Continuous motor operation is supported by a phase current of 14 A RMS, while dynamic events such as acceleration are handled by a peak current of 28 A RMS. An enclosure rating of IP20 limits the converter to clean, cabinet-mounted environments where airflow is controlled. Internally, the current form factor of 1.01 keeps RMS and average values nearly identical, minimizing motor winding losses. Motor compatibility spans phase inductance values from 2.5 mH to 15 mH, and the output bridge can deliver up to 10 kVA of installed load with a residual voltage drop of only 5 V. The input resistance for command signals is 20 kΩ, and the BTB/RTO relay can switch 500 mA for safety-chain feedback.
A separate control rail of 24 VDC powers the logic core and restart-lock relay, ensuring that the drive remains in a stable state during mains interruptions. The drive dissipates 160 W at rated current, so the panel must provide adequate convection or forced airflow. The analog velocity or torque command enters through a 12-bit converter with a resolution of 1.25 mV. New samples are processed every 62.5 µs to keep control-loop latency low. Electrical option “AS” adds auxiliary encoder inputs for advanced feedback arrangements without altering the drive’s current capability. These additional inputs allow the amplifier to receive position or velocity information from compatible external feedback devices while retaining the same main power stage.
