The S61401 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the S600 Servo Drives series. It regulates motor torque, speed, and position in automated machines by converting three-phase AC power into precisely controlled output currents. Integrated control loops allow the drive to respond to changing motion commands and load conditions. Fieldbus connectivity supports communication with higher-level machine controls, while the power stage operates high-performance axes in packaging systems, pick-and-place robots, and material-handling equipment.
The power section accepts a three-phase supply ranging from 230–480 V, and the drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 14 A RMS to the motor terminals. Its control ASIC updates the torque loop every 62.5 µs, enabling tight regulation of motors with low-inductance windings. When the drive operates at rated current, internal power losses reach 160 W, and cabinet feeders must accommodate an installed apparent power of 10 kVA. The output retains a 5 V residual drop relative to the DC link, which should be considered when evaluating the available motor voltage. The analog ground input has a resistance of 20 kΩ to avoid excessive loading of external command electronics. A quiescent power draw of 15 W is present whenever the control logic is powered. The ±10 V setpoint channel accepts velocity or torque references, and the AS electrical option provides application-specific input and output functions.
The control electronics and safety relays use an auxiliary supply of 24 VDC. A 3.15 AT slow-blow fuse protects this circuit and isolates the low-voltage wiring from mains faults. The output stage supports motor inductance ranging from a minimum of 2.5 mH to a maximum of 15 mH. Keeping the connected motor within this range helps prevent excessive ripple current and sluggish torque response. The safety relay switches the auxiliary voltage level used by the control circuit, simplifying emergency-stop wiring. The drive has a mass of 5 kg, which reduces the structural load placed on the cabinet backplate during installation. Adequate mounting clearance should be maintained so that heat generated by the power stage can leave the enclosure without obstructing nearby components.
