The S61400 servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen and belongs to the S600 Servo Drives series. It converts fixed-frequency three-phase power into controlled current that drives brushless servo motors, enabling precise torque and speed regulation in packaging machines, gantry axes, and other motion-centric equipment. Integrated I/O and relay contacts let the drive participate in machine safety chains, while its DSP-based control loops maintain a tight following error under rapidly changing loads.
The power stage tolerates an input voltage range of 230 to 480 V, allowing the drive to operate on common 230 V and 400 V plant power systems. During continuous operation, it delivers 14 A RMS to the motor, establishing the thermal limit and attainable torque with appropriately sized windings. Control electronics are supported by a dedicated 24 VDC auxiliary rail, so fieldbus communication and encoder power remain active during line-side lockout. When the output is loaded to its nominal current, the heat sink must dissipate 160 W; this value can be used when determining cabinet airflow requirements. The IP20 enclosure protects against accidental finger contact with hazardous internal components but does not protect against directed water jets.
The input section is protected by a 20 AT semiconductor fuse, and the total installed load on the supply bus reaches 10 kVA, which should be considered when sizing the branch circuit. Motor selection must respect a maximum load inductance of 15 mH and a minimum load inductance of 2.5 mH to keep the current controller stable. Acoustic output is limited to 45 dB(A), permitting installation in operator-accessible panels without additional soundproofing. A high-impedance measurement network presents 20 kΩ to analog ground, reducing sensor loading and common-mode signal injection. The output stage has a residual voltage drop of 5 V, while the motor terminals have a common-mode limit of 10 V. The BTB/RTO relay has a 500 mA rating for external brake control.
