Product Description:
The ATS-SERVOSTAR 603-AS-PROFI is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S600 Servo Drives series. It converts motion commands from higher-level controllers into precisely modulated current and voltage for synchronous or induction servomotors in automated machinery. Integrated fieldbus interfaces allow coordination with distributed I/O and motion groups, so the unit serves as the power and control stage in packaging lines, pick-and-place axes, and other positioning applications that require closed-loop speed and torque regulation.
An auxiliary logic rail of 24 VDC powers the internal processors and safety circuits, separating the low-energy control electronics from the main power section. During continuous operation, the inverter delivers a rated motor phase current of 3 A rms, while short-term transients can draw a peak current of 6 A rms for rapid acceleration or disturbance rejection. The power section supports an installed load of 2 kVA, making it suitable for compatible medium-frame servomotors without requiring oversized cabinet feeders. The switching devices generate 40 W of heat at rated current, which must be considered when determining panel ventilation requirements. Two 9-pin Sub-D sockets provide PROFIBUS-DP connectivity, enabling deterministic setpoint exchange and the transmission of diagnostic messages.
The drive tolerates a reflected motor inductance of up to 75 mH, providing flexibility when long cable runs or high-inductance windings are present. Dynamic braking energy is dissipated through an internal resistor with a resistance of 66 Ω, which can eliminate the need for an external braking resistor in many medium-inertia applications. The housing has a depth of 265 mm without connectors, while its 70 mm width supports dense multi-axis installations on suitable mounting backplates. A mass of 4 kg makes the unit easier to position and secure during installation or service. The built-in restart lock prevents automatic re-energization after a power interruption, allowing the drive to remain disabled until the required restart conditions are met.
