Product Description:

The SERVOSTAR-446M-S is a Kollmorgen servo drive in the S400 Servo Drives series. It regulates the DC bus and output stage so a connected servo motor can follow commanded velocity and torque profiles in industrial automation lines, packaging cells, and pick-and-place gantries. An auxiliary logic rail keeps the control electronics active when the power section is disabled, allowing safe parameter access and status monitoring. This arrangement also lets the control section remain responsive during a power-stage shutdown, which supports orderly restart behavior and clearer diagnostics.

The power stage supplies a continuous phase current of 6 Arms and can surge to 12 Arms during short acceleration intervals. Current is switched at an 8 kHz output-stage clock, which helps keep motor ripple low while easing thermal stress in the drive. Up to 12 kVA of connected load may be supported, and the bus is protected by an overvoltage threshold of 750 V. Load inductance must stay within the permitted range, with an upper limit of 40 mH to avoid current regulator instability. Four digital inputs accept step, enable, or limit signals, and two digital outputs return drive status to a PLC. These interfaces support basic machine interlocks and provide ready or fault signaling without a separate I/O module.

Control logic derives from an auxiliary rail of 24 V DC, allowing I/O states to remain active when mains power is removed. At rated load, the drive dissipates 60 W of heat, while idle losses are 15 W, which helps limit cabinet cooling demand. The aluminum housing is 100 mm wide, 240 mm deep, and 267 mm high, and it has a mass of 3 kg, so it fits compact installations on a DIN backplate. Its size also leaves room for adjacent modules while keeping wiring access manageable in narrow control cabinets.
