Product Description:
The SERVOSTAR-406A-C is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S400 Servo Drives series. Designed to regulate torque, velocity, and position of brushless servo motors in automated machinery, the unit interfaces with motion controllers through high-speed analog command channels and supplies controlled three-phase power to the motor windings. Its compact housing and closed-loop electronics allow integration into control cabinets on packaging lines, assembly cells, and material-handling axes.
The analog command port presents an input resistance of 20 kΩ, so voltage sources are lightly loaded during motion profiling. Conversion granularity is 1.25 mV, letting the controller differentiate fine speed increments, and each new sample is processed every 62.5 µs to maintain tight response to trajectory updates. At the power stage, the drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 6 Arms and tolerate transients up to 12 Arms; with an output current form factor of 1.01, the waveform is almost sinusoidal, minimizing motor heating. It supports motor windings between the minimum load inductance of 7.5 mH and the maximum of 40 mH, ensuring current regulators remain stable across a wide range of designs. Electrical losses are specified at 40 W when loaded to the rated current, while quiescent dissipation drops to 15 W during standby.
Drive logic and relay circuits are fed from an auxiliary supply of 24 VDC, which allows the control electronics to remain active when the main bus is de-energized. The housing carries a protection rating of IP20, so it is intended for mounting inside a cabinet that provides basic touch safety. Mechanical clearance is simplified by its 50 mm width, 240 mm depth without connectors, and 267 mm height without connectors, and the device weighs only 1.7 kg.
