The S443M-PB is a drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the S400 Servo Drives series. It is intended to regulate synchronous and induction servomotors in industrial automation cells, providing velocity and position control while exchanging process data with a higher-level controller. By integrating power electronics, signal conditioning, and a fieldbus coupler into one enclosure, the unit simplifies cabinet layouts and reduces setup time on assembly lines, packaging machines, and material-handling axes. It can serve as the axis controller and power stage for compact servo installations.

The drive electronics are supplied by an auxiliary bus of 24 V DC, so command logic and safety monitoring remain active if the main DC link is de-energized. A current controller cycle of 62.5 µs allows tight torque loops, and the output stage is clocked at 8 kHz to reduce motor ripple. Continuous load capability is rated at 3 Arms, while short events can be handled up to 9 Arms for rapid acceleration. Protection includes a 750 V overvoltage threshold that disconnects the intermediate circuit during regenerative spikes. Motor windings from 12 mH to 75 mH are supported, giving flexibility when pairing with different frame sizes. Four digital inputs and two digital outputs provide local sequencing, and the built-in PROFIBUS DP interface transfers setpoints and status to PLC networks. This combination supports both networked control and simple local interlocks inside the same drive.

The mechanical housing stands 230 mm tall, extends 240 mm deep, and weighs 3 kg. The 240 mm depth helps the unit fit in 300 mm-wide DIN rail sections without external support brackets and keeps rear clearance predictable in shallow cabinets. Thermal figures show only 12 W of quiescent dissipation during standby and a stabilized loss of 35 W at rated motor load, which eases cabinet ventilation demands. Its moderate mass also helps limit rail loading in compact control panels.
