The S406BA-CA is an axis module developed by Kollmorgen for the S400 Servo Drives series. As an S400 servo drive, it links a motion controller to a synchronous or induction motor in automated equipment. The unit receives position or torque references, turns them into timed current commands, and supervises feedback to close the loop. Its compact frame supports direct panel mounting in multi-axis cabinets where tight speed and position regulation are required.

The drive samples analog command voltages with a resolution of 14-bit, while its converter granularity of 1.25 mV minimizes quantization error in torque mode. Four isolated logic lines provide 4 digital inputs and two transistor outputs for sequencing or fault signaling. The internal PWM operates at an 8 kHz output-stage clock, allowing a rated phase current of 6 A rms and transient peaks up to 12 A rms for rapid acceleration. Because the axis ships without a power supply, it must be paired with an external 24 V logic source and a matching DC link to complete the system.
