The S406A-CA is a single-axis servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the S400 Servo Drives series. Acting as the power stage between a line supply and a permanent-magnet motor, this unit conditions incoming energy and delivers regulated current that follows position, velocity, or torque commands issued by a motion controller. In factory automation, it supports tightly synchronized movement on packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and material-handling actuators, providing the fast current response and compact footprint expected from an S400 servo drive.

At a continuous output of 6 A rms, the drive supplies the steady phase current required for normal machine duty, while a short-term capability of 12 A rms covers acceleration bursts or shock loads. It accepts mains in the 230…400 V range, so it can be wired to standard European and North American three-phase services without a transformer. The internal control loops are updated at 8 kHz, giving sub-millisecond response to command or load changes. A differential analog input provides 14-bit resolution for speed or torque references, and four digital inputs plus two digital outputs allow status signaling and sequence control. With an output current form factor of 1.01, motor RMS heating closely matches arithmetic current values, simplifying thermal calculations.
