The S403AM-SE is a Kollmorgen drive in the S400 Servo Drives series. It converts incoming three-phase power into controlled armature current for servo operation. This allows servomotors to follow position, speed, or torque commands in automated lines, robotics cells, and material-handling equipment.

The unit operates across a supply window of 230…400 V, and it shuts down if the DC link exceeds the 750 V overvoltage threshold to protect internal components. A maximum installed load of 12 kVA sets the required capacity of upstream protection and supply conductors, while the continuous phase current is 3 A rms with 35 W of thermal dissipation at that rating. For short bursts, it can deliver a peak of 9 Arms, which supports rapid acceleration and brief overload demand. Current modulation is updated at 8 kHz in the output stage, and the analog velocity or torque reference is converted with 14-bit resolution for fine command steps. Motion and parameter data are exchanged over the vendor-independent SERCOS fiber ring, and the module serves as the master on that network. Quiescent losses are 12 W when idle, and an enclosure rating of IP20 allows installation inside a control cabinet that is free of conductive dust.

The drive's mechanical envelope measures 230 mm in height, 100 mm in width, and 240 mm in depth, while the aluminum heat-sink housing and internal electronics give the unit a mass of 3 kg. Kollmorgen specifies a permissible motor-side inductance window from 12 mH to 75 mH, which keeps current ripple within the control range and limits voltage spikes during regeneration. Within that inductance range, the drive can regulate low-inertia indexing axes as well as higher-inertia loads with stable current control. The DIN-rail-friendly depth leaves room for adjacent filter modules and SERCOS fiber connectors without blocking airflow.
