Product Description:
The S403AM-PB is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the S400 Servo Drives series. As a master module, it supplies regulated power and motion control to synchronous or induction servomotors in automated machinery. It converts the plant’s three-phase mains power into a variable output that follows commanded speed and torque profiles. The unit’s analog and fieldbus interfaces allow coordinated axis control within packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and other industrial positioning applications.
The power stage operates across a line voltage range of 230–400 V and delivers a continuous phase current of 3 A RMS while supporting transient demands up to 9 A RMS. An output-stage clock frequency of 8 kHz controls the IGBTs, producing low current ripple that improves motor smoothness at slow speeds. Command values can also be supplied through the differential ±10 V analog input. Its 14-bit resolution allows precise command adjustments, while the 20 kΩ input resistance minimizes the electrical load placed on upstream PLC cards. Thermal dissipation is 12 W while the drive is idle and 35 W under full load. Analog measurement and pulse-width modulation calculations operate rapidly enough to support the servo-loop requirements of machines with moderate control bandwidth.
The drive has an IP20 protection rating, so it must be mounted in a ventilated cabinet that prevents contact with internal electrical components. Dynamic braking energy is absorbed by a built-in 33 Ω resistor, reducing the need for an external braking module when the drive controls moderate-inertia loads. Networked control is handled through the PROFIBUS DP fieldbus, and a matching expansion card is preinstalled for this connection. The analog loop has an update time of 62.5 µs, supporting responsive velocity regulation during changing load conditions. The housing measures 100 mm wide, 230 mm high, and 240 mm deep, allowing installation where cabinet space is limited. Its overall mass is 3 kg, which reduces the mechanical load placed on the mounting panel and associated hardware.
