Product Description:
The PER-SERVOSTAR 403A-C is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S400 Servo Drives series. Designed to regulate torque, velocity, and position in industrial automation, it interfaces with brushless servomotors and delivers controlled three-phase power from a DC link. The unit supplies a regulated motor current loop and accepts 24 VDC auxiliary power for its control electronics, making it suitable for packaging lines, pick-and-place axes, and material-forming equipment.
At the core of its current loop, the drive updates every 62.5 µs, so commanded torque changes propagate to the motor within a fraction of a millisecond. Power devices switch at an 8 kHz output-stage clock, limiting ripple while keeping switching losses moderate. During short bursts, the drive can deliver a peak phase current of 9 A rms. Continuous operation is limited to 3 A rms, which helps determine compatible motor winding ratings. Protection against finger contact and solid objects is provided by the IP20 enclosure, permitting installation in ventilated control cabinets. A separate position loop refreshes every 250 µs, allowing fine interpolation of encoder feedback, while an output current form factor of 1.01 keeps RMS and average values nearly identical for precise thermal modeling.
Thermal management begins with a quiescent dissipation of 12 W for logic circuits and rises to 30 W at rated output, so cabinet ventilation must remove this heat. The power stage tolerates load inductances between 12 mH and 75 mH, enabling connection to a range of low- and high-inductance motors without additional reactors. The housing measures 50 mm wide, 240 mm deep, and 230 mm high, allowing high-density mounting on DIN backplates. Its assembly weight of 1.7 kg helps keep panel mass low and reduces the load placed on the mounting surface.
