The SERVOSTAR-S300 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S300 Servo Drives series. It is designed to control brushless servomotors in industrial automation lines, converting command signals into regulated phase currents that control motor torque, speed, and position. By housing power electronics, signal processing, and safety monitoring in a single module, the unit streamlines cabinet layouts while providing the deterministic motion response required for packaging, assembly, and material-handling stations.
The current and speed control loops both run every 62.5 µs, allowing the drive to correct disturbances before they propagate to the mechanical load. Position commands are processed every 250 µs, and the PWM bridge switches at 8 kHz so voltage vectors follow these updates with minimal quantization. An internal buffer stores up to 300 tasks, enabling standalone positioning sequences without a supervisory PLC. Protection against dust-borne contact is provided by an IP20 housing, and the circuitry is rated for overvoltage category III to withstand plant-level surges. Two analog inputs accept ±10 V references, while four opto-isolated digital inputs and two digital outputs exchange state information with limit sensors, interlocks, and status lamps.
Cabinet integration is eased by the slim profile. The drive measures 70 mm in width and extends 171 mm in depth once connectors are removed, letting several axes share a narrow enclosure rail. A form-C relay with a switching current of 500 mA can forward ready or fault signals to external contactors. The power section is safeguarded by an internal 24 V fuse rated at 3.15 AT, which isolates the logic supply during overload events. When the application shifts into energy-saving mode, the controller lowers magnetizing current at a reduced-current frequency of 16 kHz, decreasing thermal stress on both the drive and motor without delaying subsequent motion.
