The SERVOSTAR-310 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S300 Servo Drives series. This compact controller is installed in control cabinets to convert DC bus energy into synchronized three-phase outputs for brushless or synchronous motors. By closing its internal current and position loops at microsecond intervals, the unit supports coordinated multi-axis motion in packaging, assembly, and material-handling lines where repeatable acceleration and deceleration profiles are required.

The control electronics receive logic power from a 24 VDC auxiliary supply, while the power stage draws up to 4 kVA from the three-phase mains at 50 or 60 Hz. Two analog channels and four digital inputs accept velocity or torque references along with enable, limit, and homing signals. The current loop updates every 62.5 µs, and the position loop updates every 250 µs, which helps maintain stable regulation during load transients. Under continuous duty, the drive supplies 10 A, with a peak capability of 20 Arms for brief acceleration periods. These electrical values provide clear thermal and wiring limits for matching the drive with compatible servomotors.

The hardware is housed in an IP20 open-frame enclosure intended for panel mounting inside a ventilated cabinet where ambient temperature does not exceed 40 °C. Its DC link can rise to 450 VDC, so properly rated bus bars and braking resistors are required when regenerative loads are present. The insulated-gate output bridge switches at 8 kHz, balancing acoustic noise with dynamic torque quality, and the unit may be energized or de-energized up to 30 times per hour without exceeding mechanical relay life. During operation, approximately 90 W of heat is dissipated and should be removed by forced convection to keep internal components within their operating limits. The output transistors also have a residual voltage drop of 4 V at nominal current.
