The SERVOSTAR-306 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen as part of the S300 Servo Drives series. It converts a fixed AC supply into a controlled three-phase output that follows velocity or torque commands from a motion controller. This allows closed-loop positioning and speed regulation in automated machinery such as pick-and-place gantries and web-handling stations.

The power electronics can deliver a continuous phase current of 6 ARMS/Phase, while short duty cycles are supported up to 15 ARMS/Phase; these limits indicate the thermal and magnetic loading the connected motor may experience during normal and peak moves. A supply rated at 2.4 kVA is required at the input terminals to satisfy full output plus internal losses. Current is switched at an output stage frequency of 8 kHz, reducing torque ripple and acoustic noise in the motor. During conduction, the transistors introduce only 4 V of residual drop, helping to preserve bus voltage for the motor windings. Dynamic response is supported by a velocity loop bandwidth of 400 Hz, enabling tight speed regulation when loads vary. Cabinet cooling must remove 60 W of full-load heat and 12 W when the drive is idle, and an internal resistor can absorb up to 80 W of regenerated energy during deceleration. The DC link is rated for a maximum of 450 VDC, and an automatic shutdown is triggered if the level reaches 455 VDC on 230 V mains, protecting bus capacitors. Operational noise is limited to 45 dB(A), supporting installation near operator stations. Overall panel layout is simplified by the low heat output and compact footprint.
