Product Description:
The SERVOSTAR-303 is a servo drive designed by Kollmorgen as part of the S300 Servo Drives series. In automated machinery the unit links motion controllers to AC synchronous or asynchronous servomotors, modulating voltage and current so position, speed, and torque follow programmed profiles. By converting three-phase 230 V line power into controlled DC and then high-frequency PWM, the drive forms the core of closed-loop axis control on packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and similar equipment.
Electrically the drive tolerates a DC bus up to 450 VDC, with an overvoltage trip occurring once the link reaches 455 VDC when supplied from a 3×230 V mains. Continuous operation draws 1.1 kVA from the line and delivers a steady motor phase current of 3 A rms at 3×230 V; momentary acceleration demands are covered by a peak capability of 9 A rms at 3×230 V. To protect connected windings the design expects a minimum motor inductance of 4.3 mH, while its half-load carrier runs at 16 kHz and the insulated-gate output transistors commutate at 8 kHz nominal. The PWM transitions impose a voltage rise speed of 3.3 kV/µs yet still limit reflected energy by holding residual bus drop to 4 V. Under rated load the converter releases 35 W of heat through its heatsink.
Mechanical and thermal figures support cabinet integration. The housing is 171 mm deep without connectors and only 70 mm wide, so multiple axes can mount side by side on DIN rail. An IP20 protection rating confines live parts but requires installation inside a closed panel with forced convection; in that enclosure the unit’s electronics dissipate just 12 W when the power stage is disabled. For dynamic braking the internal resistor measures 66 Ω, absorbing excess kinetic energy during rapid deceleration and keeping the bus within safe limits.
