The SERVOSTAR-300 is a servo drive module manufactured by Kollmorgen within the S300 Servo Drives series. Designed for industrial automation, it regulates torque, velocity, and position of compatible servomotors, acting as the closed-loop interface between motion controllers and machine mechanics. This arrangement lets the unit translate command signals into controlled motor response while monitoring axis feedback in real time. Four programmable digital inputs and two programmable digital outputs support local sequencing without external relays.
To support fast loop closure, the drive refreshes its current regulator every 62.5 µs and executes the speed loop in the same interval, while the position loop updates at 250 µs. Pulse-width modulation runs at a switching frequency of 8 kHz, and a separate reduced-current mode lifts the carrier to 16 kHz to minimize audible noise when the axis is idle. Field wiring is powered by an auxiliary bus of 24 V DC, sustaining logic functions even when the main power stage is off. The drive has 2 analog inputs for velocity or torque commands. On the network side, the integrated CANopen node ships with a default data rate of 500 kBaud, allowing deterministic communication with master controllers.
When the power stage is disabled, the housing still vents only 12 W of heat, a figure useful for cabinet cooling calculations. Motion pulses can be accepted through a step-and-direction interface that supports 24 V logic up to 100 kHz or 5 V logic up to 1.5 MHz, giving the drive flexibility for microstepped or high-resolution indexing systems. The output current form factor of 1.01 indicates the sinusoidal quality of the phase current and simplifies RMS current sizing of upstream protection. This combination supports integration with both pulse-based command sources and networked motion systems. A single CANopen ring may attach up to 16 slave axes, so one controller can coordinate the drive along with fifteen peers without additional gateways.
