Product Description:
The S31061-SE is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S300 Servo Drives series. It regulates torque and speed for synchronous or induction motors in factory automation, linking motion controllers to mechanical axes through its integrated SERCOS interface module. By converting mains power to a controlled three-phase output, the unit supplies precise current and voltage profiles that match the dynamic requirements of indexing tables, pick-and-place gantries, and packaging machinery.
This drive accepts a mains window of 110 to 230 V AC and uses a separate control rail of 24 VDC to keep logic functions and fieldbus communication active during an E-stop. Continuous motor excitation is supported by a rated phase current of 10 A rms, while short bursts up to 20 A rms help overcome inertial loads during startup or rapid direction changes. Current is modulated with a carrier of 8 kHz, balancing acoustic emission with switching losses. At idle, the heat sink releases 12 W, rising to 90 W at nominal load, and the internal DC link is limited to 450 V. An overvoltage trip occurs if regeneration pushes the bus above 455 VDC.
The housing is classified as IP20, so installation inside a switch cabinet with forced ventilation is required, especially when ambient temperature approaches the 40 °C limit. The power stage draws up to 4 kVA from the supply, which is relevant for circuit breaker sizing and energy budgeting. A dual-channel safety circuit provides STO, removing gate signals within 1 ms to achieve immediate torque decay at the motor terminals. Two analog inputs, four digital inputs, and two digital outputs are available for local interlocks or sensor feedback, and users can select an alternative 16 kHz PWM setting when acoustic noise must be minimized. Weighing 2.8 kg, the unit mounts vertically to promote chimney airflow and maintain rated heat dissipation.
