Product Description:
The S31061-NA is a Kollmorgen servo drive in the S300 Servo Drives series for closed-loop motion control of synchronous and induction motors on automated machinery. Its aluminum housing measures 70 mm wide and 171 mm deep, allowing high-density cabinet layouts. Designed for panel mounting, it regulates motor speed and torque by modulating the DC bus voltage into a three-phase output. This compact format suits multi-axis installations where several drives must fit in one enclosure. The narrow housing also leaves more room for wiring ducts and adjacent power components in the same panel.
Operating from a line supply of 110–230 V, the drive draws up to 4 kVA and delivers a continuous phase output of 10 A rms with cyclic peaks of 20 A rms during acceleration. The pulse-width-modulated inverter switches at 8 kHz, producing an output form factor of 1.01 that closely approximates a sinusoidal waveform while keeping switching losses manageable. Current derates above a 16 kHz carrier frequency, and connected motors must present at least 1.9 mH of inductance to avoid excessive ripple. On 3 × 230 V operation, the dU/dt slope is 3.3 kV/µs, and bus overvoltage protection activates at 455 VDC. With only 4 V of residual drop across the output stage, thermal loss at rated load is limited to 90 W.
The control layer integrates an onboard CANopen interface for parameter download, diagnostics, and multi-axis coordination without external option cards. This arrangement reduces the need for additional communication hardware in the cabinet. DC bus voltage is capped at 450 VDC, and an internal brake resistor of 66 ohms can absorb up to 50 W continuously to hold the bus below that limit during overhauling conditions. It also supports rapid deceleration events that return energy to the DC link. For machine safety, the drive implements STO, which removes torque-producing pulses while maintaining field power to ancillary electronics.
