Product Description:

The S31061-IO is a servo amplifier from Kollmorgen built for motion axis control within the S300 Servo Drives series. As an S300 servo drive, it interfaces directly with synchronous or induction servo motors to modulate torque and velocity according to a command source in industrial automation lines. By converting fixed-frequency mains power into regulated DC and high-frequency PWM output, the unit supplies precise current loops that keep machinery synchronized with controller setpoints.

The drive accepts a single- or three-phase mains window of 110–230 V, and the internal rectifier produces up to 450 VDC on the intermediate bus to energize the inverter stage. Under nominal loading, its power section can draw 4 kVA, while the current regulator supplies a continuous 10 A rms and a momentary peak of 20 A rms for acceleration bursts. Power devices switch at 8 kHz, establishing a compromise between motor acoustics and switching loss, and the carrier can be increased to 16 kHz when lower current is required. A built-in functional safety channel provides STO (Safe Torque Off) so motion can be electrically inhibited without opening the main contactor.

For machine interface, the optional I/O extension board supplies 14 digital inputs rated for 24 V logic and 8 sourcing outputs that can deliver field loads up to 500 mA at the controller's regulated 24 V rail. Thermal performance includes a quiescent dissipation of 12 W and a 90 W heat loss when the amplifier runs at full load, so cabinet ventilation must be sized accordingly. During rapid deceleration events, an embedded resistor absorbs 80 W of regenerative energy, preventing DC bus overvoltage. Command channels draw only 7 mA, allowing lightweight PLC output cards to trigger enable sequences, while the drive may be cycled up to 30 times per hour without derating.
