The S30661-SN is a single-axis servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the S300 Servo Drives series. In an automation cell, it sits between the AC supply and a servo motor, forming the closed-loop link that regulates torque, velocity, and position. By translating digital motion commands into high-frequency PWM waveforms, the unit provides the dynamic performance required for pick-and-place robots, conveyors, and packaging actuators. This closed-loop arrangement helps the axis respond quickly to command changes and load disturbances during repetitive motion.
Control electronics are powered from an auxiliary rail of 24 VDC, allowing logic to stay active during input power interruptions. The power stage accepts a single- or three-phase input of 110–230 V and switches at an output-stage frequency of 8 kHz, or 16 kHz when load is below fifty percent, to reduce motor ripple. Regenerative energy is dissipated by an internal brake resistor of 66 ohms; the resistor can absorb 50 W continuously and up to 0.88 kW for one-second deceleration events, while a 3 kW pulse rating covers emergency stops. Because the logic supply is separate from the input power feed, fault status and control functions can remain available while line power returns.
Protection and thermal limits are handled on the DC bus, which is allowed to rise to 450 VDC but is switched off if it reaches 455 VDC on a 230 V supply. For rapid acceleration, the inverter can deliver a peak phase current of 15 A rms, while the continuous rating is 6 A rms; heat from this duty is removed by 60 W of dissipation inside the housing. Motor compatibility requires a minimum phase inductance of 2.6 mH, and the output edge rate reaches 3.3 kV/µs on the 230 V bus, supporting current regulation without excessive voltage stress. Functional safety is addressed with the certified STO channel, which disables torque without cutting control power and supports performance level requirements with minimal external hardware.
