The S30661-EC is a compact servo drive from Kollmorgen's S300 Servo Drives series that conditions mains power and performs closed-loop current control for rotary or linear servomotors used in automated machinery. By converting single-phase AC to a regulated DC bus and then to high-frequency PWM, the unit delivers commanded torque while coordinating with motion controllers over an EtherCAT network. Its primary role in an axis is to translate the position or velocity references it receives into precise motor currents that keep industrial processes synchronized.

The drive accepts a single-phase supply spanning 110–230 V and draws up to 2.4 kVA under rated load. Nominal motor current is limited to 6 A rms, while brief acceleration commands can raise output to 15 A rms. A switching stage operating at 8 kHz minimizes current ripple, and the integral brake chopper dissipates regenerated energy at up to 80 W, so an external resistor is unnecessary for most axes. Thermal losses inside the housing reach 60 W at full load, and the integrated heat sink removes that heat to keep semiconductor junctions within their temperature range.

An internal DC link supports up to 450 VDC, giving headroom during deceleration events, while the dual-channel STO circuit provides immediate torque removal when safety relays open. Two analog inputs allow torque or velocity trimming, four digital inputs accept enable or homing signals, and two digital outputs report drive states to higher-level controllers. The control electronics are powered from an auxiliary 24 VDC supply, which allows EtherCAT communication to remain active during mains outages. The drive uses a 2.8 kg aluminum chassis that is 70 mm wide, 171 mm deep, and 246 mm high, permitting dense cabinet layouts without obstructing airflow.
