The S30661-DN servo amplifier is produced by Kollmorgen within the S300 Servo Drives series and is intended to regulate current, velocity, and position loops for single-axis automation. By rectifying incoming AC power and switching the resultant DC bus through insulated-gate transistors, the drive delivers controlled three-phase output to brushless or induction motors. In packaging machines, printing lines, and light assembly stations, this control closes the loop between motion commands and actual shaft behavior, allowing coordinated starts, stops, and speed changes under PLC supervision. The amplifier adjusts motor output in real time so the axis can respond consistently to changing load conditions.

The power section accepts an input of 110…230 V at a facility mains frequency of 50/60 Hz and draws a nominal phase current of 6 A rms. Electrical loading at that point corresponds to a continuous input power of 2.4 kVA, which the internal rectifier converts to a DC link that may rise to 450 VDC during regeneration. Motor voltage is synthesized by pulse-width modulation at a carrier of 8 kHz, keeping ripple outside the velocity loop bandwidth while limiting switching loss. Heat created under rated conditions is 60 W, and forced-convection cooling maintains semiconductor junction temperatures. A separate quiescent dissipation of 12 W is recorded when the drive is enabled but unloaded. DeviceNet communications are supported through a dedicated expansion card so node addressing, parameter access, and diagnostics can pass across the plant fieldbus.

During fast accelerations, the current stage can deliver a peak of 15 A rms, and torque is removed safely by the integrated STO circuit that disconnects gate drives without cycling main contactors. The velocity loop closes at up to 400 Hz, giving tight speed regulation for indexing or electronic gearing functions. The housing measures 70 mm wide, 171 mm deep, and 246 mm high, and the unit weighs 2.8 kg, so it fits shallow control panels without additional bracing.
